Classes for Caregivers of Young Children
Caring for Children with Diabetes
We have been offering the caregivers’ class for last 10 years. Now, upon many requests, we provide an opportunity for caregivers to learn about advanced technologies to manage type 1 diabetes as well as basic diabetes care.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this class, the participant will be able to:
Diabetes 101: Caring for Children with Diabetes
- Define and understand type 1 diabetes and symptoms
- Describe treatment options for childhood diabetes
- Describe how food impacts diabetes management
- Identify approaches of managing diabetes within the child’s and families’ lifestyle
Introduction to technologies for Children with Type 1 Diabetes*
- This class is designed for people who completed Diabetes 101 or who have been exposed to basic diabetes management.
- Explore general concepts of pump therapy and Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM)
- Increase familiarity with pump and CGM technology
- Understand advanced bolus features of pump therapy
- Develop knowledge of management of exercise
- Classes will be a lecture, discussion, and Q&A
- Classes do not teach any hands-on insulin management skills i.e. insulin injections, blood glucose monitoring etc.
- The format of this class will be lecture, discussion, and Q&A
